NORDLEK 2012 is experiencing dance, experiencing music, experiencing food – in classes, concerts, dances, excursions, exhibitions and through interesting projects. In Steinkjer, in the middle of Norway.
NORDLEK 2012 will be a creative and innovative arena for traditional folk culture, focusing on folk dance and folk music. Through conserving and developing our common Nordic culture we will build our common identity during a filled week. Steinkjer is not a big city, here you will find it easy to find your way and separate events are just a short walk apart. The majority of activities will take place at Campus Steinkjer, where dance halls all are near each other – with dorms right next to them.
If you are aged 14 to 26 and love folk music and folk dancing – and enjoy the company of your peers (who isn’t), you can get a head start at our Nordic Summer Camp 6-10 July. Here we will have classes in folk music and folk dancing, featuring top instructors. The “leikfest”-party will be the culmination of a fun week, and we will make sure our youth participants won’t lose track of each other during the main NORDLEK-event.
In many families mum and dad aren’t dancing any more. Time fall too short. When children needs attention keeping in touch with fellow dancers is demanding, and the children might not experience the dancing joy their parents did. At NORDLEK 2012 we hope these parents bring their children along for experiences for life, allowing them to learn and take pride in Nordic heritage. We are making sure families can enjoy each other, building an international network. Games, dances and informal competitions, family excursions and family parties. Also, the children can relaxed in a separate nursery, close to dance halls and their parents. You can also choose to stay at the family camp nearby.
We expect you to come to NORDLEK to dance day and night, but also offer you a multitude of other experiences if you find the time: Dance shows and concerts, excursions to the historic sights in Nord-Trøndelag, such as an evening in Stiklestad’s viking surroundings, a visit to the bears and the magic theatre in Namskogan family park. Come back for more. A detailed program is to come.
Travelling to Steinkjer is easy. Trondheim airport is not far away, and offers frequent bus and rail connections. Also the E6 highway passes straight through the city. Upon arrival, we will make everything comfortable for you.
Welcome to NORDLEK in Steinkjer 10-15 July 2012.
